Alternative Answers for Acid Reflux

A couple of years ago, I developed acid reflux. After reading countless articles about the negative side effects from various over-the-counter and prescribed proton pump inhibitors, I began my own search for natural remedies.

Here is what I have found:

A. Proven Old Amish Formula: (Order on Amazon) Stops acid reflux in approximately 1 minute.

B. Daily raw potato juice:  Juice should be taken first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach

  • Cut potatoes into 1-inch cubes
  • Add ½ cup water.
  • Grind in a blender until it has liquid consistency
  • Drink juice daily for 6 weeks

  • Esophacool
  • Esophageal Guardian

D. Aloe Vera Juice can be helpful – ½ cup daily in the a.m.

E. Fenugreek: One teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in your food can be an effective remedy for acid reflux or heartburn. Mucilage of fenugreek seeds coat the lining of the stomach and intestine and soothe irritated gastrointestinal tissues. Before consuming, you can soak the seeds in water to make their outer coat mucilaginous.

F. Carrot Juice: Sipped throughout the day is very helpful to keep the acid under control.

G. Green vegetables are a natural anti-acid. Cucumbers are especially cooling.

Trigger Foods

Tomatoes: High acid content

Chocolate: Weakens the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES), a muscle that helps prevent acid from traveling back up.

Fried foods: Slows stomach emptying and increases pressure on the LES muscle.

Citrus: High acid content

Peppermint: Weakens the LES muscle

Garlic & Onions: Contains compounds that large amounts can irritate damaged tissue

Alcohol (especially wine) Irritating to damaged tissue and weakens the LES muscle

Spicy (Hot) Foods: Irritating to damaged tissue

Coffee: High acid content and weakens the LES muscle

Cold Drinks: Extremely hard on digestive system

Trouble Shooting

If you get acid after eating, analyze what foods you ate and ask yourself these 4 questions:

  1. Did you chew your food well? (masticate)
  2. Did you drink fluids with your meal? (best not to)
  3. Did you lie down after eating? (best to avoid for 2 hours)
  4. Did you eat sugar on an empty stomach? (never do this!)
